On a side note, the Alen 350 has been a wonderful air purifier. If you've got it on auto fan speed, even a smelly burp or toot is enough to have it whir into action.

First of all, I just wanted to say that I purchased this Air Purifier from GoVacuum locally (which offers top notch customer service). I was unsure about purchasing it due to the high price, but due to the large amounts of research I conducted and my previous experience with air purifiers, I decided to go with this unit. I've tried MANY MANY different air purifiers over the years (Honeywells, Orecks, Blueairs), and for various reasons, this one stands out.



1) Many of the other air purifiers require that you change the filter every 6 to 12 months. The HEPA filter in this one lasts years. Amazingly enough, it's purified the air in my room better than all of the other purifiers have after I've used them for a week.



2) Forget those electrostatic purifiers that say you can just wash them in the dishwasher. I owned an Oreck for about a year. During that time, I had to take it in for service about 4 times due to the fact that it was emitting strange smells and the motor sounded like it was grinding. Additionally, when I stuck the electrostatic filter in the dishwasher it would clean it, but the performance degraded after every wash.



3) Sure, it's bigger than the other air purifiers, but if you place it properly, you'll get great results. Originally, I just placed it near a wall located in the room centrally. That didn't seem to work as well as I had hoped, so I placed it closer to the air register in the room. HUGE difference. If you place it with the 1 foot clearance catercorner to the wall near a register as suggested, it will clean the air as advertised.



4) I've got severe allergies to pollen, pet dander, and dust. Someone else noted that the nurses at the allergists stared at their bumps as the allergy tests were conducted. I had the same problems. Fortunately, this seems to be the purifier that cures my symptoms.



5) Folks seem to complain about the noise. I live in a small room (9ft x 10ft) and I can sleep comfortably with the fan on the 4 setting even though I am a light sleeper.



6) Like most other folks, I agree that it's expensive. However, if you have severe allergies and you're sick of wasting money on other lackluster air purifiers, look no further, the IQ Air HealthPros will solve your problems.



I don't write many reviews on here (In fact, this is my first one), but I have been astonished and inspired by the performance of this product. I hope that all the other folks on here that suffer from severe allergies can find relief with this air purifier as I have.

After 1 month of use, this unit earns my highest recommendation. I researched air purifiers for about a week before buying two IQAir units, one with the odor filter (Pro-Plus), and one without (Pro) to help with allergies and asthma symptoms that my family suffers from. Both of them work absolutely perfectly, with significant symptom relief within the first week of use. The packaging was very secure, with each unit contained in double boxes similar to what you find with high-end stereo equipment, including thick styrofoam inserts for cushioning. The unpacked units were sparkling new and clean, with an inspection page that detailed the performance at each of the five individual speeds. The manual was nicely organized and easy to comprehend.



These are sturdy units that are somewhat heavy, but come with a convenient handle recessed on the top, as well as caster wheels to roll the unit if you need to move it periodically. The manual recommends clearance of at least 12 inches on all sides for optimal performance, so keep this in mind for placement in your room. It is noisy at the highest setting, but works very effectively at quieter settings 2 or 3 in my 13' x 16' room. I also use an IQAir unit in a 20 x 20 room, and it cleans the air very well at setting 3. My son noticed so much improvement in his allergies and breathing after just two days of use, that when I moved the unit to another room for a night, he begged me to return it to his bedroom. We went on vacation for a few days, and he said that he could not wait to get back home because he missed the IQAir purifier.



If you are comparing the units with and without the odor filter, even the one without the odor filter leaves the air smelling fresh and clean. In fact, for the first week, the one with the odor filter had a bit of a peculiar smell to it, which might have been coming from the odor filter itself. Unless you have a really significant odor problem, you can save the extra $100 that you pay for the "Pro-Plus" over the "Pro" model. The units look identical from the outside, and you can order a retrofit assembly from the IQAir if you later want to convert your "Pro" to "Pro Plus." Each unit has a remote that is slightly larger than a credit card, which is very convenient if I want to change the setting after I get into bed.



In summary, these IQAirs are well worth the price, which isn't as much as it seems after you factor in the yearly filter replacement cost, which is lower than most other brands. I wish that I had discovered IQAir years ago, before wasting my money on other air purifiers. I am so impressed that I am about to order a third IQAir to use in my office. I have previously owned the following air purifiers, none of which came anywhere close to my IQAir units: Oreck XL Air8D, Oreck XL 4000, Holmes (various sizes), Honeywell (the largest big round one), Sharper Image (Ionic Breeze). I hated cleaning the Oreck units, which were overpriced, and their replacement filters were also very expensive on a yearly basis. The Orecks also left a lot of dust all around them. The motor burned out on my large Oreck unit just after the two year warranty expired. The Honeywell filter was also very expensive, and the unit was extremely noisy. The Holmes units were ok for very small rooms, but had to be on the noisiest high setting to notice any air cleaning, had flimsy construction, and required frequent filter changes. The Sharper Image units were basically useless, as they did not improve the air quality or our allergy symptoms; they went back to the store after three weeks.

Every morning I would wake up coughing up something. I tried sleeping at two different houses and I would still wake up coughing. After using this for one night the coughing decreased the next day. By the end of the first week I would wake up without coughing. I was skeptical after my previous air purifier seemed to make matters worse but after one month I love it.



I've also used the fan timer as an alarm in the morning incase I hit the snooze button to many times. So if your half asleep and the fan kicks on at level six it will catch your attention. But it is not loud too loud to wake me from a dead sleep.

I bought this air purifier after reading several rave reviews all over the web. After much consideration (mostly due to the price) and research, I decided to purchase one for my apartment. I was not disappointed. Delivery was prompt and the product arrived in perfect condition, it was packed very well and came with great documentation. I also noticed when unpacking the unit how well built and solid it is.

This air purifier works great and I immediately noticed a difference in air quality, so much so that I have even been sleeping better. My apartment is prone to exhaust fumes and I also have a couple of pets, so dander was a concern to me. Based on how much better I have been feeling lately, I would say that the IQ HealthPro is doing it's job.

My only minor gripe would be when the purifier is in on any setting over 3, it is fairly noisy. Just be mindful of placement and you will have no worries.

My siblings went together and bought this unit for our parents five months ago. Dad's cancer, an aggressive type of lymphoma returned unexpectedly with a vengence. Because his spleen was removed five years ago he has a very low immune system. We were concerned about infections setting in - especially thru the flu season and chemotherapy period. He has survived the flu season without even a cold! My mother put the unit in the bedroom and left it on continuously. One day she decided it was not needed on warm sunny days. After only one night she was miserable with a stuffy nose, raspy throat and headache. She just laughed as she thanked us again for the air purifier and said that she didn't "KNOW" wheter or not it was helping Dad, but that it sure did make a difference for her.

This unit was bigger than I expected it to be, and not as quiet as I thought it would be either. It's not loud, but on medium to high settings you can clearly hear the motor going, I can only sleep easily with it on the lowest setting.



As for clearing the air, it does that decently well. Doesn't do too much as far as trapping dust, but it does remove a lot of airborne allergens. I noticed a week after buying this that I breathed a bit easier and my sinuses were more clear in my room than it was outside or in other people's houses.



For the price, it works well enough. You can probably buy a better one at a more expensive price.

My bf and I bought this air filter specifically for the fact we both have asthma and wanted a nice air filter that not only cleaned the air, but would not create ozone. No where in the reviews did it say that it was an ionizer so we bought it. We had it on for one night, it did a great job cleaning the air and was quiet but when I went to go break down the packaging, I noticed teeny tiny print on the bottom of the box that said: warning: includes ionizer that produces ozone. do not use if you have asthma.



We were both quite upset that we didn't see this warning on Amazon before we bought it. Had to return it! False advertising!

I reviewed dozens of air purifiers in the search for the best, low-price one with a HEPA filter that did not use Ionizing technology (which appears to be especially risky for people with asthma). I purchased the Honeywell HFD-110 Quietclean Tower thinking I had found the perfect match...



...that is until the package arrived and the fine print on the box said that this was a "HEPA-Type" filter (ie. NOT a HEPA filter, which means not certified to the high standard of a HEPA filter). When you look at the filter up close it looks nothing like the HEPA filters I have seen (not dense at all, quite the opposite).



To make matters worse the HFD-110 IS an Ionizing air purifier (and you cannot turn this feature off), contrary to the Manufacturer's Description which would have you believe otherwise, "Compared to ionic air purifiers, the filter from the HFD-110 captures 12 times more pollutants..."



Look, I think this would otherwise be a decent Ionizing, Generic-Filter Air Purifier if it was presented honestly in the manufacturer's description.



Considering that I was COMPLETELY MISLEAD into buying exactly what I did not want, I will think twice before ever buying a Honeywell product again!

I noticed a difference right away! I have a small studio apartment and once I plugged this into the wall, my air was really clean within hours. I noticed a huge difference with my allergies. I also have a cat so the usual 'cat smell' that can linger was gone. I have friends that are severly allergic to cats, so I tested it out with them. I had the machine on high for about two hours, then invited them over. They had no symptoms in the 3 hours they were there! I bought the Quietclean Tower a couple months ago. I like it except for the fact that it is not "quiet" at all. I can sleep with it all night only on the lowest setting. It seems to clean the air well but DOES have a ionizer which I do not remember seeing on the ad. It acts like a fan, which I like as it moves air very well. Other than the sound I think it is a good air cleaner. It captures lots of dust and the filters are easy to clean.

I will echo all of the positive reviews seen here and add some extra information.



Reading the various reviews, people may be worried if they are finding the right model in the stores, and if the model inside has the lifetime HEPA filter or not. The box may say permanent or it may say something else, with a sticker that says "permanent filter inside". This is all you need to know. I don't think it's even possible to find inventory that still contains the replaceable filter.



As a torture test, we put our unit in the kitchen when we roasted greasy chickens over the 2008 holidays. This usually stinks out our apartment for a week, and it still did. It was too much greasy smoke for the Honeywell. Worse yet, after moving the unit back to the office, there was a roast chicken scent for another 5 or 6 days. I was about to replace the one month-old carbon pre-filter, but then it finally wore off and now the unit seems as fresh as new.



But roast chickens aside, the difference in air quality in the office and bedroom (we move this unit around daily from home to office) is very impressive. Dust is down, chemical odors are gone, (I sell glue and solvents), and the computers are staying clean. (When we had an ionic breeze, the electronics would attract more dirt, and the air would be dusty, now the air is clean and so is the equipment).



I did so much research before buying this and I am very happy I chose this unit. I run it on low for about 16 hours a day, occasionally on high after making the bed in the morning, and only turn it off at night (for silence).



I'm considering getting a second one, but then its so easy to move...

Update: March 11th 2009, used every day since December 11th (3 months) and still working perfectly and very effective, without any filter change or vacuuming. The only odd thing is that the filter indicator lights seem unchanged so maybe they don't work. I don't know, but I will try to wait another three months before changing the pre-filter and vacuuming the permanent HEPA filter.

I'm not too sure what to say...is it bad? no...is it great? no. I bought this to help purify the air in my office here in Afghanistan. Let's just say to start that is no easy task!! The unit seems to be functioning well enough but it's a little on the loud side and it really drops the temperature in a room. It has not had any issues and seems to be working...as I said, the air here is terrible to begin with so it's hard to say if it's really making a dent. I'd like to think it is.

My wife has severe alergies and used to sneeze constantly in the house, during allergy tests she pretty much came up positive for everything. She used to get allergy shots once a month, but no longer after this unit. Neither of us sneeze at all anymore. I also have a dog and smell is no longer an issue. Only problem is you can not use an air freshener in the house because it will have no odor. I have tried many air cleaner products and this is by far the best. It is big, its ugly and expensive to replace the filters, but I would pay double, worth every single cent.

I have only owned and used the product now for 2 days. But, WOW!!! What a difference! I am a SEVERE allergy suffer. And I own 2 cats. (I know, I'm crazy! But I love animals.) I have tried all the allergy medicines know to man. Perscription and otherwise. They work in the beginning and then I guess I build up an immunity to them. Anyway, I have FINALLY found relief! I am SO grateful to this company. I can breathe anywhere in my house now, with my 2 cats! The unit is pretty nice looking, but for a compact, still large. Seems very easy to use. Best of all, NO SET UP! Just attached the wheels if you want to use them. Seems very sturdy. Yes, expensive, but truly, WELL WORTH EVERY DIME. This unit knocks the Sharper image model out of the playing feild completely. The sharper image unit is also excellent, however TOO MUCH UP-KEEP. Too much constant cleaning and waiting for it to dry. Don't I have enough to do already? Anyway, the IQ AIR is very easy to use, No set-up and best of all.... IT WORKS IMMEDIATELY! I was breathing better within the first 30 minutes of plugging it in. Now, when I turn it on, I breather easier right away. I guess there was so much crap in my air at first. The company provides a 30 day return policy. Try it, I am sure you will love it and not return it.

I did my research and found this is the best large room air purifier on the market. I have suffered from allergies all my life and have been through all the medications. I still use the medications but as I grow older they seem to be less effective so I thought it time to try an air purifier. My wife has just begun to suffer from allergies. Both of us noticed that when we were in the room with the IQAir we stopped having runny noses and stopped sneezing. (When I moved it to the bedroom the snoring stopped too.) So now I find there is only one thing to do and that is buy another air purifier for the bedroom. Since this IQ Air may be a "compact" it is still a lug taking it up the steps. A few years ago in San Diego, CA there was an emergency situation with fire outbreaks close enough to metropolitan area to create a toxic environment. This filter has been hard to find in my area, and has been strictly mail order. Amazon cut the price in half of my normal outlet. I use the filter both for fresh air and as a noise buffer, as I live on a busy street. It has been a good product.

It does just what it should. It gets dust, hair, and who knows what else cleaned out of my room. Be careful when putting the filter into the purifier, the casing that goes around the edge of the filter is made of foam and will tear easily if you push too hard.
