With 100 watts and a tiny coverage, this purifier is not energy efficient. The HEPA filter replacement for this product is so overpriced that the difference between the filter and the complete unit is only about $5-$10. Worse, Holmes stated that the HEPA filter must be replaced on 3-6 months of continued use. That's a pretty short life.

Quiet? nah. In fact it ties on loudness (on mid setting) with my Hamilton Beach TrueAir 04161, just slightly quieter on high setting ,and actually louder in lowest setting. The sound produced is also a rough motor type sound, which is not so pleasant to hear.

Its CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate, a measurement standard for air purifiers -- www.cadr.org) is only a measly 55-70.

However, it does its job removing particles from the air quite well on high setting.

If you can, get a better air purifier that has a cheap and long lasting HEPA filter.

We've had this filter for over a year now and it has worked very well. She has allergies and when they act up, she goes in the room with the filter and within 15 minutes, she feels much better, and can breath.



It's pretty quiet (especially on low) and not to heavy to move around. You do have to change the filters (1-2 years depending on use) which can be expensive but it's worth it for us.

We bought this filter with the remaining balance of our medical savings account about five years ago, when it was $299. We didn't think we needed such a big filter, but if we didn't spend the money, it would just go to waste.



Let me tell you, we have now survived 2 fires in the San Diego region, the first fire came less than 1 mile from our house, blanketing our neighborhood like a nuclear winter ... For these cataclysms, we set the filter out in the center of our living room, and it cleans virtually the entire house! It was a life saver !! At a time when every air filter in the region flew off the store shelves like hot cakes, we had the ARNOLD SCHWARTZENEGGAR FILTER!!! You could smell smoke coming in underneath the doors (we later packed the doors with towels), but this air filter kept all our living areas fresh and clean!



We have a smaller floor standing honeywell $100 circular air cleaner #50100, the little brother of the 50250N. This Whirlpool is quieter than the Honeywell on all 3 settings, although the highest whirlpool setting may be louder than the lowest Honeywell setting. I'm sorry, this filter has just wrecked my enjoyment of our Honeywell circular filter. I just don't have patience for the circular filter any more, and now I'm a committed "Muscle Appliance" shopper (another muscle appliance of ours is the PATTON HIGH VELOCITY fan.)



The filter is box-shaped, with a side intake (shown in the picture). It blows air out of the top, at one of three speeds. The only control is a 3-speed knob (depicted.) The box size/shape of the honeywell takes arguably less floorspace than a circular cleaner. Because it has a side intake and blows air upwards, you can push this giant Whirlpool up against the wall, unlike a circular cleaner. Despite its bulk, it's relatively light, and the top panel overhangs both sides, making it easy to grip and carry. I have this one next to my lazy-boy chair and it makes an effective coffee table, with one caveat : If you have small children or are clumsy, take care not to drop anything down into the vents, because it doesn't come apart very easily. In a smaller room this would be on light duty. We use ours intermittently and we've only changed the HEPA once in 5 years, and the charcoal filter about 3 times.



Don't waste your money on gimmicks which are everywhere in air filter products. Don't settle for a HEPA-Type tower (filtering only 99%.) Buy the biggest, most powerful HEPA/Charcoal 99.97% filter than you can afford. You'll be grateful that you did the right thing !!

This air filter is rated highly by Consumer Reports. It does not emit ozone like those electrostatic filters (such as the Ionic Breeze, which CR says emits way too much ozone). I only run it when I'm not around. I never use the sleep setting. I just turn it on and off as I please. The lowest setting is fairly quiet. Definately does it's job of filtering the air. Highly recommended. You'll need to replace the hepa filter at least once a year and the prefilter every few months. Can get expensive, but it's worth it.

This air purifier works amazingly. We plugged it in and within 30 minutes there was honestly a change in the air quality. The air felt crisper and fresher. My husband and daughter have been getting sick a lot less and sneezing a lot less. There is also increased circulation in the room we have it in, and it is powerful enough to work in kitchen and living room, which are open to each other by a doorway and bar cutout. Even at the highest setting it is very quiet, quieter than a fan running on low. We don't even pay attention to it. I would highly recommend this product over any other air purifier.

This filter does as promised, in terms of performance. The air is definitely noticeably cleaner when it's in use.



However, the unit arrived with a noisy bearing and after less than a year of use, that bearing siezed. The unit seems deliberately designed to be difficult to service, with fasteners hidden in the most asburd places, many of them being superfluous. It took an hour just to disassemble and then reassemble the unit so the faulty bearing could be lubricated to keep the unit running. Requiring that every single piece of the filter housing be disassembled in such an awkward manner in order for the motor to be accessible was a -very- poor design decision.



This is worth noting: the unit was suffering from mechanical failure before the main filter had even needed to be replaced once.



After maintenance it does seem to be running functionally again, though that bearing doesn't turn as freely as it used to.

We had been shopping around a while for a purifier, they were either too big or too expensive. This one, although it's small has been working very good for us and the price is not too high either. Our daughter was born prematurely, and hospital atmosphere is so clean and sterile, I was afraid she would come down with something when she got home. We decided to set the crib and the purifier up in our room for a while until she gets strong enough to sleep alone and we can really feel a difference in the air. It is compact taking up little space and blends nicely, its not an ugly looking clump. We will be buying another one for our other daughters room.

Sharp FPP60CX HEPA-Filter Air Purifier with Plasmacluster Technology



I have the Honeywell 50250 and the Sharp FPP60CX.

They both do a good job of air purification, but the Sharp unit is very modern/sleek looking, technologically much more advanced, and much, much quieter - most of the time I have to check to feel if there is actually air flow, it's that quiet. Expensive, yes, but well worth the price. If you can't afford the price, go for the Honeywell (see my review on that) -you won't really need earplugs.



You'll have such a great night of sleep after a night of

air purification, you'll wake up refreshed and want to get out of the house and have some safe slingshot shooting fun.

I live on a dirt road in the desert southwest. Before purchasing this device we would need to dust our living area at least weekly or face significiant dust build up. Device is very quiet. We generally never notice it running. It will kick into a higher speed when we sit down on the sofa and generate dust, however it is a very soft fan noise and not at all disturbing. We like this unit a lot.

The filter is exceptionally quiet and very well made. Plasmacluster could be the best active cleaning technology available. I happen to own a model with humidifying function KC-C150U and the FPP60CX. The FPP60CX has a much better charcoal filter and is quieter, however the FPP60CX does not have the dust sensor in KC-C150U, which works very well. The sensor in FPP60CX does not seem to work that well - it is almost always green and does not detect the changes in the air that KC-C-150U does. The KC-C150U on the other hand has inferior charcoal filter, is noisier and its humidifying method is vulnerable to bacterial growth. The previous Sharp model FPN60 seemed to be better because it had a good dual sensor.

So my son had allergies (just like his Dad did) and had to get on medication. So we bought this air purifier. I was impressed that it cleaned over 3000 square feet for being so compact. It was very quiet. We ran it on the other side of the house from where my sons room was but the next day his allergies went away and he was able to get off his medication. About a week later I noticed my sons allergies came back. I called my husband at work and he said he decided to give it a rest for a day and had shut it off. We live in a poorly ventilated apartment above a household of smokers. Out of concern for our baby's health, we purchased this Kenmore model to replace an older, similar Whirlpool model that was no longer functioning well after eight years of use (and that, unfortunately, Whirlpool is no longer manufacturing). This does a great job quickly clearing the air, and we are pleased with its performance. The only reason why I'm giving this four stars rather than five is because the Kenmore model that I received isn't the same as what is pictured on Amazon. It contains a styrofoam interior rather than the hard plastic core that the Whirlpool Whispure contains. My old Whispure (with the plastic interior) was virtually silent, even on the highest speed. The Kenmore version is noticeably louder than the Whispure, especially on high. My baby sleeps well with white noise, however, so that hasn't deterred us from using it.

I've had the Whirlpool Whispure 250 and 450 for several years now and it is a wonderful air cleaner. We get a bunch of dust each time we clean the pre filter (about every 2 weeks). They are quiet at the low speed, but a little noiset at high speed. The only caveat I have with these air cleaners, are the expensive Hepa replacement filters. It's good we onlt have to change them every 1-2 years.

I would recommend this product to anyone who has allergies or just hates dust, pollen and pet dander.

My boyfriend and I did a lot of research when we decided to get an air purifier, and this one was very highly rated all around. We are really pleased with it - it's in our bedroom and there was a noticeable difference just the day after we started using it. We leave on the lowest setting at night, and not only is it extremely quiet but the small amount of sound that it does make creates white noise and blocks out our neighbors and the street sounds (we live in Manhattan so that's saying a lot!). There's a lot of construction going on across the street from my apartment, and the apartment has been really dusty. My wife and I have allergies and we were really suffering. This machine is really only Quiet if you have hearing problems. Seems like a factory inside, even on the so called sleep mode. My cat is afraid of the noise, in sleep mode. When put on medium or high mode, she leaves the room. It's more like a vacuumcleaner. I really do not understand how people can say that this thing is quiet in sleep mode. Comment this if you want to hear a recording of the background noise on sleep mode :)

.. and it also has an Ionizer with it. Another benefit for some is that it runs kinda loud when set on high, which helps if you need ambient noise to help you sleep. And the price is great. Only downfall is that it really only cleans a small area, perfect for a bedroom but too small for a living room etc...

Have not determined effectivness, as yet. Compact, eye appealing, and quiet on low setting. Have it running 23/7. Medium and high settings are on the noisy side. Nice product!
